They wait for Hope to come into her own as a Mikaelson, to be ready to take on the power and responsibility, to not need their protection so much anymore. To process her own issues with death and the idea that her aunt and uncle weren't going to be immortal forever, and that's okay.
Her phoenix boyfriend helps. So does just growing up and growing past the hole that losing her parents left behind. And it isn't as though he isn't also going to be an incredibly powerful witch to boot.
Still, time is a good thing, as Davina needs to make sure that the cure will work. There was a lot of testing, a lot of misfires and a lot of bad batches that don't seem right at all, but eventually she gets it right. She has a cure she can be confident in. And when she presents it to him, at their kitchen table in San Francisco, she's unsure how he's going to react as he watches her lay it all out on the table.

when talking about being witch again, it's all said in the hypothetical. of course, he knows there's a way to be one once more, but it's never been an option for him. that path has been rightfully barricaded with a troll not allowing him to pass. over the years, kol's learned to accept his jealousy and resentment of never getting to be a witch in his true body.
he'd always known davina would make anything and everything happen for him. she's made him happy, helped him control his own anger, and even forgive those like his brothers and sister who had wronged him in the past. if he had asked her for the world, she'd deliver it to him on a golden platter.
he wants to be a witch. now, with it within arm's rest, he isn't so sure if it's possible. ridiculous, isn't it?

Well, love… [ he'd thought perhaps placing his hand on top of hers and drawing it into his lap would give him the words he needed, but they've escaped even his attempt. he lets out a loud breath, looking at their kitchen table as if it has blueprints of how this will all go down—what words to say, what words to not say, the thoughts to have and the ones to leave behind.

[ that's not one of his main worries, but it's easier to break uncertainties, doubts, and even excitement with humour. ]
[She laughs, before tucking her legs under herself and reaching up to her fingers against his temple, where she can envision patches of gray collecting, or crows feet extending up from his smile.]
I think wrinkles will make you look distinguished.

[ she doesn't have to get any wrinkles, although kol isn't too keen to turn her. being a witch is what davina enjoys most. while he sometimes lives vicariously through her magic, he knows being a vampire would only smother her as it has him. he might have appeared to embrace it, but he's longed for magic for over a thousand years. to turn her would be to treat her as esther had treated him.

[She then shrugs, because she doesn't want to force him into making this choice. This isn't about children, really, or wanting to build a life with him. She loves the life they have and she doesn't want him to feel like she doesn't. But she remembers how it felt to do magic with him, and she would love to feel that feeling again, if he would be open to growing old with her.]
It's your choice. Especially with Rebekah taking the cure, soon you're going to be the only Original left. I wanted to give you the option.
[She isn't going to live forever, and she doesn't want him to be alone, with only the next generation, people who won't really know him the way they did for company.]
[ it's tempting to remain as the only one is on the tip of his tongue, but kol doesn't feel like joking about it. losing niklaus and elijah had been a blow to the mikaelson family and any chances of true closure, but it had also released kol from quite a lot of his own anxieties. he's now the oldest living vampire. it's a title he's held with great esteem, liking the fact he can pull the age card on almost any vampire now.

I think that being a Mikaelson witch has way less baggage on it.
[Not that it's going to erase the things he's done, but as of now, Freya and Hope are the Mikaelson witches, and they're doing a lot to rehabilitate the name.]
But being an Original vampire does mean I have to worry a lot less about you getting hit by a bus or dying in a plane crash.
